Do you select your countertop first and then the backsplash to match? Or, do you reverse it and pick the backsplash first and then your countertop? Who cares! There are no rules in this design game so put on your creative hat and start searching for the perfect match; in whatever order you want!
If you want to go the easy route, select your countertop first. The main reason would be it’s the workhorse of your kitchen, plus there are only so many options to pick from based on your budget. You can then select a backsplash that compliments the countertop. This is probably the most popular order in which selection goes, but don’t be afraid to be different!
Feeling bold? Pick your backsplash first and then the countertop to match. This may be the more difficult selection process because backlash options are basically unlimited; but if you find one you L-O-V-E, don’t let it slip through the cracks!
Can’t make a decision? Pick the same material for both. I know, we just blew your mind. But you actually can use the same material for both the countertop and the backsplash. This option is smart if you’re required to purchase entire slabs of your countertop material and you have enough left over to use as the backsplash.
If you’re still overwhelmed and can’t decide, consider hiring a designer. They’ll help you visualize the finished product which may be just what you need to finish this project!
